What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Websites can also keep information in your browser's local storage. Some of this is needed for the site to work. Some helps us see how the site is used and which of our ads work.
UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) lets us use strictly necessary cookies without asking you. Since the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, it also lets us use cookies that only collect statistics about how our own site is used, so we can improve it, as long as we tell you clearly and you can easily turn them off. We use that for our own site statistics. For any other cookie, we must have your consent first.
Cookies we use
| Cookie or storage | Type | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
rs_consent |
Strictly necessary | Resurface | Remembers your cookie choices. | 180 days |
resurface-chat (local storage) |
Strictly necessary | Resurface | Lets you carry on a chat you started with us. Only set if you use the chat. | Until you clear it |
rs_purchase_* (local storage) |
Strictly necessary | Resurface | Notes that a completed purchase was counted, so it isn't counted twice. Only set after you subscribe. | Until you clear it |
rf_admin |
Strictly necessary | Resurface | Keeps Resurface staff signed in to the admin area. Never set for visitors. Scripts on the page cannot read it (HttpOnly). | 12 hours |
lake_id |
Site statistics (on unless you opt out) | Resurface | Tells one visitor apart from another in our own site statistics, so we can count visitors and see how they use the site. Scripts on the page cannot read it (HttpOnly). | 400 days |
rs_lake_* (local and session storage) |
Site statistics (on unless you opt out) | Resurface | A session ID, a visit counter, and the link or ad that brought you here, for our own site statistics. | Until you opt out or clear it |

_gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gcl_gb |
Advertising (consent only) | Google Ads | Link a visit, enquiry or subscription to the Google ad you clicked. | 90 days |
_ga, _ga_* |
Analytics (consent only) | Google Analytics | Count visits and show which pages and features are used. | 2 years |
We do not set Google's advertising and analytics cookies, or rs_attr, unless you click Accept in the cookie banner. If you click Reject, or close the banner without choosing, they are not set, and Google's script is not loaded at all.
These cookies are only used on Resurface's own pages. The visualiser that installers put on their websites, and their hosted pages, do not use our statistics or Google cookies.
Payments happen on Stripe's checkout page, which sets its own cookies under Stripe's privacy policy. Google may also use cookies on its own domains to measure ad conversions; Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Our own site statistics (on unless you opt out)
We record how you use the site in our own site statistics: the pages you visit, where you came from, and a recording of your visit made of pointer movements, clicks (with the label of what you clicked), scrolling and when you press keys (never which keys). It also records your browser, device type, screen size, language, time zone, approximate location and IP address. We use it only to understand how the site is used, to find and fix problems and to see which of our ads lead to enquiries, never to show you advertising, and it stays in our own Cloudflare account. Our Privacy policy explains how long we keep it.
You can turn this off at any time: open Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and switch off Site statistics, or click Reject all. We then stop recording, delete the statistics data in your browser and expire the lake_id cookie.
How consent works on this site
- Before you make a choice, Google's script is not loaded, and no advertising or analytics cookies are read or written.
- If you click Accept all, Google's tags may use advertising and analytics cookies and use your data for advertising measurement.
- If you click Reject all, Google stays off and our own site statistics are turned off too.
- You can choose site statistics, analytics and advertising separately under Choose.
- If you have accepted advertising cookies and then contact us or subscribe, your browser sends Google a hashed version of your email address to measure conversions. We do not do this if you have rejected advertising cookies.
- We remember your choice for 180 days. After that, we ask you again.
Changing your mind
Click Cookie settings in the footer of any page to change or withdraw your consent at any time. Once you withdraw consent, Google's tags stop reading or writing advertising and analytics cookies, and we delete rs_attr and Google's cookies from this site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
